Ocimum basiclicum
This Neapolitan basil has it all, large dark green leaves, true basil flavor and aroma. The leaves are smooth and can grow up to six inches long. The flavor is what you expect, sweet with a bit of spicy clove and pepper undertones. It is perfect for pesto, tomato dishes or any recipe you would use basil in. The young top leaves taste the best and should be used fresh. The leaves are highly aromatic, and some gardeners use them to ward off mites, aphids, tomato hornworms and other garden pests. For the best flavor, pinch any flowers as they form to prevent bolting or going to seed.
