Ruta chalepensis
This Rue is a compact shrubby herb with lacy, highly aromatic, blue-green leaves. In mid-to-late summer clusters of small yellow flowers appear on top for the foliage and bring pollinators to the garden. This variety is not typically used as a culinary herb. Young tender leaves are edible but as leaves and stems mature they develop compounds toxic to humans and pets. Please do your research before using this herb. This variety develops a deep taproot system, when planting break up the soil to help roots grow deeply. Once established it is drought tolerant.
