Silver Queen is a Southern treasure that became popular after it was introduced in the 1960s. For many the harvest of this sweet white corn means the beginning of summer. It has a lower sugar content than newer sugar enhanced varieties, but it has the “real” corn flavor. The 8” long ears have 14-16 rows of uniform tender white kernels inside bright green husks. The juice from the corn is milky and creamy perfect for a variety of recipes, it makes great creamed corn. Silver Queen is so creamy and sweet that some people pull away the husk and silk and bite right in to the juicy ears. Ears hold well on the tall stalks.
