Back to Hot Peppers

Bird

These small red peppers originated in Mexico. They get their name because they are consumed and spread by wild birds. The small oval shaped peppers start green, then turn to shades of orange and then ripen to a bright red. When green they have less heat but when red and fully mature, these tiny peppers are HOT! They can be used in salsas, hot sauces or to add heat to soups, stews and sauces. They dry easily and are often stored, dried and turned into flakes or ground into a powder.
