This popular chili pepper originated in California and was named for the city of Fresno. Fresno peppers look like a Jalapeno and taste a little like a Jalapeno but they deliver a spicier medium heat. The bushy plant is a heavy producer of 2 inch, slightly curved, glossy fruit that can be picked green for mild flavor orange for a hotter flavor and deep red for its hottest flavor. Pick before it turns red and it has a spicy medium heat like a Serrano and at red it has a more complex fruitier, smoky flavor than a Jalapeno. This versatile medium hot pepper is ideal for eating fresh, stuffing, pickling, frying or sauteing. Use in Mexican or Southwest cuisine to flavor and heat up dishes.
