This slicing variety is also known as "Heirloom Tomato Sandwich" and is a classic Southern variety. While the origins are not known this variety has been a staple crop since the early 1900's in the rural South. It is, as the name suggests, perfect for a sandwich with or without mayo, cheese, bacon or lettuce. The 10-16 ounce, large bright red tomato has a flattened globe shape with pronounced ridges at its crown. The flesh is rich, juicy, and meaty and full of true tomato flavor.
