Moneymaker is one of the oldest heirloom varieties. It was released in Southampton, England in 1903 and has been one of the most popular varieties ever since. It was approved by the USDA in 1963. The name is rumored to refer to its success as a commercial crop in the UK. It is easy to see why this variety has been delighting gardeners for over a century. It is easy to grow, has good disease resistance, shows tolerance to early and late season cold weather and it produces delicious tomatoes. It has a slightly sweet, tangy flavor and a good tomato taste. This salad tomato is not much larger man a tennis ball and averages 4-6 ounce fruits. The fruits grow in clusters, are round, have smooth glossy skins that mature to a bright unifom red.
