Also known as Husk Tomato this native American
fruit was enjoyed as far back as the Pilgrims. Tasty cherry-size tomatoes grow inside light brown, papery husks similar to a tomatillo. Fruits start out green and mature to yellow gold.
Ground cherries produce hundreds of fruits on each plant. Harvest when husks become dry and papery and fruit falls off the plant. Husk is in-edible and must be removed. Eat fresh or use in desserts, sauces, preserves, pies and salads.
